Just between you and me, I am going to let you in on a dirty little secret, laundry detergents are not soap! In fact laundry detergents are actually petrochemical by- products called Surfactants derived from crude oil. Surfactants are chemicals that break down the surface tension of water making water "wetter". Water is commonly known as the universal solvent, and when water is "wetter" it can actually lift and dissolve dirt and grime from fabric, this is the sole purpose of laundry detergents. Since laundry detergents do not remove stains you are probably using stain removers and chlorine in your wash.

To add insult to injury beside the ever increasing cost of laundry detergents, these harsh chemicals can be harmful to your health by causing skin and respiratory allergies. Compounding the problem, laundry detergents leave (although your washer goes through a rinse cycle) small deposits of detergent on your clothes, this makes your clothing stiff and rough, so you're probably also using fabric softener in your wash. Harsh detergents dramatically shorten the usable life of your clothing by slowly deteriorating the fabric . As you might have guessed by now laundry detergents are not environmentally friendly. Good Grief!
